Cover Print: Etching by Bob Daniels
Printmaking is said to have originated in the 5th Century in Asia however, there is no date given as to when this method of producing designs for textiles or for artistic purposes begin. There are said to be 5 types: Intaglio - Digging into a recessed surfaces such wood/linoleum/glass/plastic and stone. Relief - Raising the design above the surface level; examples are woodcuts, linoleum prints, collaging ( pasting materials over a plate to produce a print (image). Lithographs - is a one time non reproduceable print ( you make the picture/design on a plate and then ink the plate). Serigraph - Is a process where ink/paint is forced through a design/stencil onto a fabric ( paper, textile fabric, wood). Monotype - Is a process where you hand draw the picture onto a smooth surface with a grease added to paint or oily substance and inks. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube that will take you through the processes of each method.
